Ming's Bachelorette – Part Two
The second day of Ming's Bachelorette was THE big one. We woke up bright and early (sadly I slept a total of three hours due to jet lag and my mind running through what needed to be done for the day ahead) and went down to Basilico at Regent (their Italian restaurant) for breakfast – it's included in their Strictly Social Package.
God I love a hotel buffet breakfast. It brought me back memories from being a teenager, I literally would go to the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore because they did an unreal breakfast buffet (not to stay, literally just to eat breakfast). I had to have three large rounds of helpings minimum, or I’d have a cloud of shame following me for the rest of the day. Ah, the good ol' days.
Anyway, Day Two started with Ming's Amazing Race. When we were younger, we used to watch The Amazing Race together and fantasise about participating on the show and being each others race partners. I even bought her a birthday card a few years ago that said "I'd choose you as my Amazing Race Partner" on the front.
The idea was great because it worked with any COVID restrictions, being in teams of two. Originally, I'd planned that we get a cameraman to follow each team around, then a video editor to create an Amazing Race episode for us. That is, until I realised how much a whole production crew would cost. So instead, I asked everyone to film as much footage on their phone as possible. Dream big then adjust, right?!
Disclaimer – I feel like this is a little bit of a dud post because I didn't shoot nice blog-style content during the day, but the purpose of the post is for the DETAIL! If you want to see how we ended up like below, you can watch the full Instagram Reel here.
Along with the main itinerary (I showed this in the previous post), I sent out individual event cards which held more information about each event, such as where to meet, the dress code, etc. Again, all of these cards were designed by my incredibly talented friends Lucy and Alex! It featured Ming and her dog Lulu adventuring together.
I decided to do 3 tasks only, because I pictured myself doing it first – two tasks didn't seem like enough to really get into it, and I could see myself getting tired/bored after 4+ tasks. So THREE tasks really is the sweet spot; enough to enjoy it and feel like you've had a really good time, ending on a high.
I also decided to give them the option of two tasks on each task card – an easier task that gives your team one point, and a harder task that gives your team three points. Turns out everyone went for all the three point tasks because we're all COMPETITIVE AF. As I wanted everyone to film things, I made sure the tasks were things that required being filmed and that were also fun to film.
We all met at the lobby of Regent Singapore where I briefed everyone on how the points work (first team to arrive gets an extra 6 points, second gets 5, etc and the last team gets 0 extra points). To get everyone there on time, I messaged in the WhatsApp group not to be late as your partner couldn't start without you (guilt-tripping is a great motivator and I stand by it).
I handed out the cards (face down), did a countdown, then yelled GO! For about 4 seconds, everyone stood still in silence looking at each other, until I grabbed Ming’s arm and started to run. Then EVERYONE ran.
It was so much fun bumping into different teams along the way, running around nearby streets and yelling in cafe’s to find an Australian man.
Once a task was completed, the bottom of the card said where to head to pick up the next task card. I had family members stationed at the next two stops to pass out the next task card.
Coincidentally we ALL went to the same arcade, but Ming and I didn’t see another team while we were there so I thought we were the only ones who did that challenge. It was only later when I watched everyone’s videos that I saw everyone went there too, and even had other teams pop up in the background of their video.
After that challenge, it was off to the next stop. Where the best dressed girls go was obviously Rentadella, where my Mum was waiting with a suitcase of costumes I'd bought from Amazon. I made sure to get as many matching costumes as possible (like PB & J, Mario and Luigi, etc) so teams could wear them together – and I also looked for outfits that were sold together in pairs because it generally meant they were cheaper too. These costumes were not only good for the budget, but also you could just pull them over your clothes.
COSTUMES I BOUGHT:
The final task card was handed out with a scratch card that revealed the final destination.
The scratch card had various spots around Singapore on the card, and the spot that came up three times was where you had to go. I'd once received it as a gift revealing where I was being taken on a birthday trip "Match 3 to find out the destination!" and it was so cute and exciting to do, so I knew I wanted to repurpose the idea!
I got the scratch card customised from Daisyley Designs on Not On The High Street.
The final stop took us to Crane (the one in Arab Street), which is a cool space that has a retail store, cafe, but is also a co-working space and hosts workshops – you can also book out their spaces, which is what I did.
We were greeted with Mango Daiquiris upon arrival (Ming's favourite cocktail), which they did specially for the event. There was also an aura photo booth – I'd seen it before and I was obsessed with the idea of having one at the event. I found one company in Singapore that did it, Dollop (they offer a range of photo booths). It was really cool seeing everyone's aura colours and energy readings, and it was such a nice thing to take home!
We then did an essential oil + candle making shop with Moana. I when organising it with Marissa (the owner of Moana), I asked for a workshop that centred around love, lust, relationships, sex, etc – wanting it to be more bachelorette-y. It was PERFECT – she'd gotten specific oils and crystals for this purpose. We created our own oil blends (with a base, middle and top layer) depending on what energy we wanted to attract, and topped them with crystals (our birthstones, as well as crystals that supported different chakras and energies).
I also made a custom candle label and sent it to Marissa, which she got printed so all the girls could have matching pink labels that said "This Smells Like Love" on it, and "M.B's Bach" in smaller font at the top.
Lunch was served afterwards by Cantina (who live on the ground floor at Crane). I pre-ordered the dishes they had available, selecting the ones I knew Ming would like the best (think polenta fries, Lebanese sweet potato fries, hot honey chicken bites, roasted pesto barramundi with king oyster mushrooms and brown rice). They're an Asian farm-to-table concept, and everything was delicious. I asked for it to be served on family style platters so the girls could help themselves towards the end of the candle workshop.
Again, sorry about the lack of photos (bad blogger), but here is the reel I made for the Crane/Aura Photobooth/Candle Workshop part of the bachelorette!
After this, it was time to go home so we could all get ready for dinner (next post!).
P.S. If you're in Singapore, Crane are kindly giving out 1 month free membership to my followers using code "BRIDGESXCRANE" at checkout page, and also 10% off at Cantina if you show their staff this blog post before making a payment! You're welcome my huns xx
