Ming’s Bachelorette – Part Four
The final post for Ming’s bach! And it’s probably the most juicy in terms of bach merch! It’s the HANGOVER POOL PARTY!
Initially, I wanted to plan a trip abroad (most probably to Bali, or a nearby island) for Ming’s bachelorette weekend. However, the world was still rife with COVID, and the Singapore travel restrictions at the time meant that trying to plan something abroad would have been incredibly difficult. There’s no doubt the positive RSVPs would drop dramatically if quarantining was involved.
There were even group restrictions in place at the time of planning. When I started, you could only hang out in a group of 5 people max, later increasing to groups of 10, so everything I planned had to adhere to these restrictions. When the bachelorette weekend was only a few weeks away, the group restrictions suddenly lifted! I knew I wanted to plan a pool party just to get a little sense of what a Bali bach weekend would have been like.
I scoured far and wide on the internet for villas in Singapore with pools, and finally landed on Villa Du Jardin at Sofitel Sentosa.
Let’s get straight to the details first. Planning a bachelorette pool party was so much fun! I got heart pool floats and engagement ring pool floats, and even got a personalised beach ball that said “Ming’s Hen Party” on it.
Then there was the fun table.
First up, bubbles.
I bought the bottles at a supermarket, scraped off the labels with hot water, and stuck my own labels on top. I used the same image on the pool party invites (like all the other illustrations for the event, the drawing was by Lucy & Alex)
LULU WITH THE SUN REFLECTOR HONESTLY GETS ME EVERY TIME. I laughed for many, many minutes when I first saw it. Lucy and Alex were so great bringing my specific illustration visions to life.
I also got personalised temporary tattoos - hearts with Ming’s fiancé’s name on them - for all of us to stick on ourselves. There were also fun face jewels, and fresh flower crowns made by TA Experiences, to give a slight festival vibe.
And then there were the drink accessories!
Personalised Ming’s Bachelorette cups, hot pink willy straws (these are a classy willy straw option IMO), and personalised drink stirrers with Ming’s fiancé’s face and “GROOM GOALS” on them.
Ming didn’t use the willy straw though, she had her own special ‘Bride’ straw. Side note: These are available on my new lil party shop, in different colours and in a bundle deal too!
One of my favourite details were the personalised towels.
It was important to me that things I got made would be reused, and personally I’d be less likely to publicly use a towel that said “Ming’s Bachelorette” on it. So I went with these gorgeous Turkish cotton beach towels and customised them with embroidery that said “Playa Del Ming”.
I rolled them up and dotted them on the seats and side tables around the pool, as well as covering the sun loungers with them.
Okay, now we can have a little backstory. I honestly, HONESTLY, didn’t know if Ming would make it, and a couple hours before the pool party was scheduled to start I actually thought I’d be forced to cancel it (but I pre-paid so the party would just have to go on without her sorry). When I say we broke her on the night out, we really did break her.
The thing is, you’ll never believe me, because from the pictures you’d NEVER know she was absolutely beyond KO until 4pm. The pool party started at 3pm, and she was in the villa bed when people started arriving. Then she got up, put her cowboy hat on, stuck a Liam tattoo on her ass, and was somehow alive again. Believe me when I say she’s a champion.
I initially wanted to get everyone matching swimsuits, but the cost and also logistical difficulty stopped me. I still wanted everyone to match, so I asked everyone to wear a black swimsuit, because I honestly believe every woman owns one. Plus, it’d look cute with all the face jewels, tattoos, etc!
It was a very chilled Sunday after a hectic Saturday. We played 2000’s bops, had some hangover drinks, swam/floated, chatted.
And we also had pizza!
These pizza boxes were my PRIDE AND JOY. I made them in London – Lucy and Alex designed the front, surprise surprise. I bought white pizza boxes (which were apparently impossible to find in Singapore?!), got large pizza box sized stickers printed, and stuck them onto the front of the box. CLEVER, NO? Packing them carefully in my suitcase and flying them to Singapore was STRESS but they made it over!!!
I ordered a range of room service pizzas from The Cliff (the Italian restaurant at Sofitel Sentosa), then put them into the boxes when they arrived.
Once everyone left, Ming, her bridesmaid Natasha and myself watched a chick flick and stayed overnight at the villa. I woke up to a bubble bath, room service breakfast and a float out on the pool to reward myself for the weekend efforts (I slept less than 10 hours total thanks to the lethal blend of anxiety and jet-lag). Little did I know my reward would really be sunburn! Keeping me humble!
THAT’S IT! Unless I should blog about Ming’s UK hen do? Don’t tempt meeeeee!
